I park in a Handicap spot and I'm not handicapped.

Dear Judgmental elderly man at the Las Vegas P.O Box,
Today you walked by my mom and I, and spoke some hurtful and humiliating words.
"You should be ashamed of yourself, you don't look handicapped at all."

No sir, you should be ashamed of yourself for judging my mom who is having a better day today than most of the days she has had in the last five years.
Today, she woke up and showered by herself. Today she woke up and dressed herself. Completely and entirely by herself. Today she woke up in less pain, feeling happier with a slight hop in her step. If you knew half of what she has been through in the last five-ish years, you'd be so happy to see her walk from the car to inside the post office on her own. She walked in without the help of my hand, or taking 20 minutes to walk just merely a few steps in front of her. You may not see her run or jump, but seeing her walk with less pain than usual is no other than a miracle.

My mom suffers from an INVISIBLE disease. A disease called Rheumatoid Arthritis in her spine. Which affects her ENTIRE body. Her body swells up, she has chronic pain from the tip of her head to the tip of her toes, her joints start to diminish, her bones become extremely fragile, and in time the disease is supposed to cause body deformities. Shoes stop fitting because of the swelling, and sometimes just the touch of a blanket fills her body with excruciating pain. Close to six years ago my mother was told she would be wheel chair bound by now. She told herself she would not and we are very blessed and thankful to the Lord that, thus far, she still walks.
To see my mom laugh, walk, and do things on her own is nothing short of a miracle. It was just a few years ago, that she was basically bed bound. Her faith, strength, determination, focus, and research has helped her get to where she is now.
Even though she has more good days, these days, she is not out of the woods just yet. She still can use a helping hand, she still suffers from chronic pain all over her body, but some days are less than others.

You might see her park in handicap, you might see her walk better than usual, and you might see her laugh. Don't diminish her positive stepping stones by insulting her. Don't ruin her decent day with your lack of manners. You may not have seen when she couldn't get out of bed, when she was screaming and in tears from the pain, when she lost her job, when she worried about the hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical debt that was coming her way, or when she started to lose hope, but please trust that she was given her handicap pass for a reason. A medical doctor chose to give it to her, to make her life a little easier while she continues to stay independent.

Handicap passes aren't for only ONE type of disability. Diseases, illnesses, disorders and or physical/mental handicaps all "look" differently. There isn't just ONE type of handicap. There isn't just ONE type of person who could use a little special treatment of not having to walk so far to allow them to live a somewhat normal life. There isn't a certain "look." It doesn't sound a certain way. It's different all around and everywhere you go. The only thing that is the same in all of them, is the word relief. Every person who suffers from something is worthy of a little bit of relief. A little help. A little understanding.

Handicap doesn't mean ONLY wheel chair bound or Elderly. There is a reason why a person is given a handicap parking pass. It isn't for fun, it's to help lessen the struggle a bit.

To the people who have an invisible disease, but continue to try and be as independent as possible, THANK YOU. To the people who are healthy, but use handicap parking passes just because they can, well, that is on you. To those who judge people for what they don't see or know, shame on you.

If you see someone who doesn't "look" handicap, instead of insulting them why not ask? why not call the police if it's that big of a deal? We keep our papers in the car at all times for people like you. People who assume the worst in others, instead of the best.

Even though your words cut like a knife, you did bring some good into my personal life. You reminded me that the silly, yet expressive, word "look" has made every single adult person on this planet be judgmental at least once in their life. Including myself. "She looks like...", "He looks like...", " They look like..."
I'm sure we have all thought or expressed this statement about someone we saw. We judge immediately to what we think someone looks like from the outside. You have reminded me not to. You have reminded me how painful it is to be judged by what others think you "look" like. I want to learn from this, be better and do better. My only hope is that people like you will want to as well.

Sincerely,
Ashley and the Invisible disease community.

3 Make up Finds // Vegan + Non Toxic + Cruelty Free

All it takes is 3 little items to change your life ...

I just wanted to share with you all 3 items that were either given to me or randomly found that have changed my life. Okay, maybe not changed, but improved my life. Why? Because I absolutely LOVE them. Love is a positive vibration so of course anything that is going to make my heart flutter or make me smile is and can be life changing. Even if it's the smallest thing... and these are pretty small. So here's why I just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ...

1. PACIFICA COMEPLETE COVERAGE CONCEALER
Oh hello Full coverage concealer that is made with natural minerals and cruelty free ingredients.
I love this brand because it they are committed to keeping their products 100% Vegan which means no animals were harmed in the making of their products. You don't have to be Vegan to support love and care towards animals. I know many Non Vegans who are starting to buy cruelty free products just because they don't want the bunnies and other sweet animals to suffer all in the name of beauty.

This product works. Has great coverage, but doesn't give you that "caky" look. Easy to blend and feels light on the face. I love this stuff. Worth a try and it won't cost you almost an entire paycheck.

2. Oil me North - Love Budder

This is a simple YES for me. If you live in a dry area you're well experienced with dry skin. I find a lot of great products that work instantly in helping heal my dry hands or dry areas on my body , but they must be reapplied multiple times throughout the day. I tried this ONE time and it lasted all day. It is a little oily, but the ingredients are all natural and let me tell you, it works!
a little goes a long way. This is a permanent staple in my home.

3. Last, but not least. Save the best for last type of deal. This Lip Balm is the business. I was given this as part of my birthday gift and I'm OBSESSED. Living in a dry area, plus not drinking as much water as I should on a daily basis can make my lips a little dry. I love this , it immediately nourishes my lips and I feel great that the ingredients are Organic, simple and natural. It's a great feeling knowing that even if I lick my lips, I'm not just eating toxic ingredients. These ingredients are okay to ingest. I always say, if you wouldn't eat it, you probably shouldn't put in ON your skin. I don't always take my own advice, but when I do, I feel accomplished. Your skin is your biggest organ and YES it absorbs. Whether its on your skin or on your lips. There is no better feeling than putting something on your body that you know isn't going to harm you like the rest of the things out there.

I highly recommend, not just this product, but the entire brand.

Check it out and let me know what you think,

Any other must haves that are 100% Vegan & Cruelty Free? Leave me a comment or write me an E-mail. I'm always on the hunt for products that will change my life in a positive way.

Acai Bowl is my main squeeze

Hey friends,

So I've been so busy lately, abnormally busy and haven't been eating the most variety of foods. I have been eating a ton of Acai bowls though.

They're so easy to make & taste delicious.

Short on time?
Try a quick Acai bowl. It has nutrients, it tastes delicious, and it's super quick. If you don't have time to eat a smoothie bowl, then make a smoothie to go. Ingredients are minimal, but packed with nutrients.

Here is why
 I love Acai :

1. Acai has a low glycemic index number,
so if you're a diabetic this is a great treat for you.
Especially because you can make Acai ice cream. YUM.

2. Promotes Healthy hair and skin. Why? Because Acai
has a high amount of anti-oxidants and Vitamin C.

3. Aids weight loss! Yes, this yummy fruit helps you stay full
and helps reduce fat deposits.

4. Anti-Aging properties. This vitamin C packed fruit has many anti-aging properties.
I mean, I don't mind getting older, I just want to look young foreverrrrr (ha-ha)

5. Acai help the body detox. Has a good amount of fiber to help your digestion as well.

There are so many other benefits so do some of your own research. Make an acai bowl and
load up on nutrients.

All you need are some packs of Acai, one to be exact.
Throw in a banana, some water and blend!

You can always add frozen pineapple and mango to make it sweeter and more tropical.

Spirulina does the body good

Calling all vegans, vegetarians and Meat eaters.
Here's why YOU have to add Spirulina to your diet.

WHAT IS SPIRULINA?

- Spirulina is a blue-green Algae that is packed with so many nutritional benefits that our bodies crave.
It comes in a powder form and just in one teaspoon gives you a bunch of nutrients. You can add this anywhere. I typically love it in smoothies and smoothie bowls. You really can't taste it.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SPIRULINA?

1. PROTEIN
As I wrote previously, Spirulina has so many benefits. Protein is a BIG one. How many times I get "Where do you get your protein from?" from non- vegans is a little absurd by now, but in just one tablespoon of spirulina you get 16 grams of protein! that's insane. Do you have any idea how small a tablespoon is? Crazy, right?

2. Anti-Oxidants
Packed with antioxidants, their ORAC number is over 24,000 which is 4-5 times BLUEBERRIES! We all love Blueberries and we all know it's packed with anti oxidants and they're great to snack on, but come on want an easy boost of anti-oxidants then spirulina is your best friend.

3. IRON
Non- meat eaters AND meat eaters everywhere struggle with Anemia. I love beets, but one serving of spirulina gives you 44% of your daily requirement. LOAD UP.

4. BETA- CAROTENE aka VITAMIN A
Spirulina has more beta-carotene than carrots. The body converts Beta-Carotene into Vitamin A which gives you beautiful skin, hair and nails. Ummm, I'm adding this to my daily diet, yep it's official.

5. CALCIUM
There's a reason why my title says " Does the body good." For decades we've been told Milk doe the body good, which we all know now IT DOES NOT. Looking to get calcium though?
Spirulina is also incredibly high in calcium with over 26 X the calcium in milk.
So awesome.

Don't take my word for it, research it. Start adding it to your diet ASAP.

Remember when I wrote I loved to add it to smoothies and smoothie bowls?
